The day Studio Caricart was born... at a winery in Vacaville, Ca
It all started in 2011. I was 28 soon to be 29 y.o. and it had been 4 years after graduating Art School. I was depressed about my career in Animation and where I was in life. I just left my job at Six Flags D.K. and all I knew is I wanted to make a change. I had been drawing caricatures professionally for 5 years and I had a vision about doing caricatures for myself but, things weren't lining up. I developed the name Caricart with a partner who helped me create a simple html site. However I got by on getting gigs at parties, proms, etc through an agent and some friends I worked with in the past. Through some chance meetings I booked three gigs on my own: a wedding, a winery, and halloween party in Solano County. The picture above was at Vitus Winery in Vacaville, Ca. I didn't have a smart phone at the time so all I had was this picture.
I have to say it was a beautiful location to have a Wine Celebration. I met amazing people there. One thing about being a traveling caricature artist is that you meet people of all walks of life.Yeah sure some artist see this as just a business or just another gig but, to me I don't see it as a job . I saw this opportunity as something greater. I couldn't put my finger on it but, there was something to being a Caricaturist. I was the only person in their 20's (next to the Owner's former Professional Model daughter.) at the party. Even though I was just a performer I felt something there. As drew the many couples, I learned so much about who they are as well as I gained some wisdom from them as well. I began to care about each person I met. Regardless of if I would never see or talk to them again ( some I got to see in the future), in that 3 hr time frame I had the chance touch someone's life. It was at Vitus Winery that I saw an inkling of what the Lord had for me to do with this art gift which would become Studio Caricart. I will tell you more of the day I finally saw the purpose of this studio in a future posting.
